Sports Center Update

Did you ever see the Star Wars movie where the Death Star looked like it was half built but was actually fully functional? I think it was the third episode. I feel that's where we are right now - except without the evil empire part. Only a week away from students arriving and the job site appears to be in a complete disarray. Key word however is "appears".

View of main entry. Doesn't look like much now but way and see...

Concrete being poured for lower stair footing.
View from lobby. It'll look better without the backhoe and dirt floor!
Of course this was all part of the plan. The team knew that certain areas of construction - mostly interior finishes - would still be occurring during the first months of the school year and special provisions in the construction process have been made to accommodate this.

Believe it or not, much of this building will be ready for the kids, including the lower entry, exercise room and locker room. The focus for the next week will be cleaning up the exterior and getting all life safety systems on line. The squash courts will still be under construction but squash season will not be starting until mid-October.
First signs that this "box" is made for squash. Notice sloped plywood for attaching squash court wall panels.
Worker installing radiant floor tubing in non-playing areas of squash courts. The beauty about a radiant floor system is that the occupants will be warm without having to heat the entire volume of space. Ideal for spaces with such high ceilings.

"Forbo Marmoleum" flooring being installed in new training room. This room will be filled with exercise equipment to help students develop proper strength building techniques. The wall in foreground will be made of glass to maximize transparency and visibility.

The North American Courts will need some walls to match the color of the fiberesin panels. I'm going with the second one down.

Inspecting the new exterior stairs to insure that they go up and down.

By the time this is posted and you read this, the dirt piles in the foreground will most likely be gone and the site will be cleaned up.
